COLLABORATIVE EVENT FOCUSES ON BLOCKCHAIN APPLICATIONS IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE

BUFFALO, NY (Oct. 4) – World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara (WTCBN) president Craig Turner announced today that WTCBN has entered into an exciting partnership with the Buffalo Niagara International Trade Gateway Organization (ITGO), InfoTech WNY and Blockchain Buffalo to present an educational session for manufacturers, logistics providers and trade services providers on blockchain, Blockchain for Supply Chain: Changing the Dynamic of International Trade. The event will be held on Thursday, October 11 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at US itek in Tonawanda.

“You can’t open an international trade journal without there being a headline about another major, brand-name global player moving to blockchain technology to strengthen their supply chain,” said Turner. “The day is not far off where to work with these companies – names like Wal-mart, Amazon, UPS and Maersk – our local companies’ technologies are going to have to advance. With the help of our great partners, we’re bringing the conversation to our trade community.”

The two-part educational session will feature expert panel discussions, held back-to-back, including a general overview of blockchain, followed by a more detailed Blockchain for Supply Chain. An all-star line-up of speakers includes Joe Peters, Blockchain Buffalo; Sarah Brennan, Lippes Mathias; Jon Spitz, Z80 Labs; Mike Dawidowicz, Coach Me Plus; Bina Ramamurthy, University of Buffalo; Dan Magnaszewski, ACV Auctions; and Shahryar Sedghi, IBM.

“With a wide gap between the realities surrounding blockchain technology and the public’s perception of it, before we dive into the supply chain application, we thought it was important to have a preliminary discussion for this audience on the blockchain concept in general,” said Joe Peters, president of Blockchain Buffalo. “With that understanding, it will be very clear to attendees why blockchain is painting the future of supply chain technology.”

“While blockchain technology has a way to go, it’s no longer something we think about as being off in the future,” said Peter Cimino, InfoTech WNY board chairman. “Many of our members are paying close attention to the growth and application of blockchain, and working with our regional international trade community to advance the technology to give companies in our region a competitive advantage is a natural fit.”

“Through this partnership, we’re looking forward to the conversations that will take place when people and companies who aren’t usually in the same room have the opportunity to convene over this trending topic,” added Turner. “I suspect some new business relationships will be formed that day.

Blockchain for Supply Chain is open to anyone, but space is limited. Members of all partner organizations receive the member rate for registration.
