WORLD TRADE CENTER BUFFALO NIAGARA TO PRESENT WEBINAR ON U.S.-MEXICO-CANADA AGREEMENT

Webinar series replaces spring programming due to COVID-19 shutdown

BUFFALO, NY (June 5) – World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara (WTCBN) president Craig Turner announced today that WTCBN will be hosting a four-part webinar series, “Recovery Through Trade,” through June and July, kicking off with a session on the new U.S.-MexicoCanada Agreement (USMCA) on Tuesday, June 9, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

“The post-COVID recovery period has officially started, and global markets are starting to reopen, similar to what we’re experiencing here in the Buffalo Niagara region,” said Turner. “For companies already doing business internationally, it’s time to ramp back up. For companies experiencing an inevitable change in their markets as a result of the ‘new normal’, it’s time to think about recovery through trade.”

The first webinar in the Recovery Through Trade series, “USMCA - How Does it Affect You?” will cover the new USMCA, which replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) when it comes into effect on July 1. The agreement brings new rules and requirements, updates and upgrades more relevant to the way we do business 25 years after NAFTA was signed, and parameters to better position the three North American partners in the global economy.

“While the world was following COVID-19, some big trade news of great importance to us here in the Buffalo Niagara region happened – Canada became the final country to ratify the USMCA,” Turner added. “Canada’s ratification set in motion a process for the new agreement, replacing NAFTA, to come into force on July 1. That deadline is fast approaching, and our webinar will help companies understand what they should be doing right now to prepare.”

Panelists for WTCBN’s USMCA webinar are: Christine Bonaguide, Partner, Hodgson Russ, LLP; Kevin Jacobi, Executive Director, CanadaBW Logistics, Inc.; Khawar Nasim, Deputy Consul General of Canada in New York; and Damon Piatek, President & CEO, Welke Customs Brokers USA.

Additional webinars in the Recovery Through Trade Webinar Series include:

June 23 – The Can-Am Border – Post-COVID Response, Realities and Recommendations

July 14 – Supply Chain “New Normal” – Overcoming Post-COVID Challenges

July 28 – Past, Present & Future – International Sales and Trade Shows

The ”USMCA – How does it affect you?” webinar is generously sponsored by Hodgson Russ LLP, Calamar, Consulate General of Canada in New York, Niagara County IDA and Welke Customs Brokers USA. The program is complementary to attend for WTCBN members, and $10 for nonmembers.
